Attacking Bawumia is unfortunate- Samba to Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, has received criticism from Mohammed A. Baantima Samba, the Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his attack on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Because of the vice president’s significance to the NPP, according to Baantima Samba, the MP does not deserve to criticise him.

He claimed that Dr. Bawumia was instrumental in the NPP’s triumph in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections and deserves recognition for his hard effort.
“I strongly condemn his unprovoked attacks on the vice president whose efforts and sacrifices contributed hugely to returning the NPP twice into office, with its attendant benefits to Kennedy, myself and many party people across the country.

“If his likes would not honour the vice president for his work for our party, they should not be attacking him unprovoked,” he said.

“For a man seeking to lead a noble party like the NPP, Kennedy’s conduct and pronouncements must mirror what the NPP is noted for: respect, decorum, dignity, and civility in speech,” he added.
The Assin Central MP criticized Dr. Bawumia for the nation’s economic difficulty, especially the depreciation of the Ghana cedi, which he claimed cost him a lot of money.
The vice president, he said, shouldn’t be the one leading the NPP into the 2024 elections due to the economy’s dismal performance and his prior utterances.

“When your fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will expose you. When you were making that statement, the exchange rate was GH¢4.20p. On Friday, it was GH¢15.00 to a dollar.

“What message do you want to give to Ghanaians again? Let me tell you; I’m telling you this straight; I’m saying all these things because of [something]…from March this year to August this year, through the exchange rate, I lost $12 million,” Kennedy Agyapong said in a viral audio.
He also threatened to shut down the presidential campaign of the vice president if he is not treated fairly in the flagbearer race of the NPP.

Twitter fans exposes the lies of Ofosu Kwakye

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, a former Deputy Minister of Information under the NDC, shot himself in the foot on Twitter when he attempted a daring reaction to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s comparative analysis of the NPP and the NDC’s record on currency rate management.
Speaking earlier today at the Government’s Town Hall Meeting in Kumasi, Dr. Bawumia presented Bank of Ghana data from 1992, indicating that the current government’s average annual Cedi depreciating record of 8.7% was the best management of the Cedi by any government in its first term under the 4th Republic.

Dr. Bawumia compared the present government’s “best record” of 8.7 percent from 2017 to 2020 to the previous NDC’s annual cumulative depreciation of 18 percent from 2016 to 2019.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu was ridiculed on social media for accusing Dr. Bawumia of lying in an attempt to respond to him.
“The Ghana Cedi depreciated by 13.7% in 2019. How can Bawumia say they have performed better? Perhaps he believes our media won’t fact check him,” Kwakye Ofosu wrote, in obvious misunderstanding of the subject.

Following his tweet, other Twitter users, most likely supporters of the ruling government, pounced on Kwakye Ofosu.
“Bawumja said average depreciation for 3 years ooo…..just sum the yearly depreciation and divide by 3….that’s the average. Argue with facts,” A twitter user by name Stephen Anim replied Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
“I guess you didn’t hear average. How do we calculate average. Ahwala Ankasa, gyama eny3 serious,” a twitter user Stephen Anim told Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
Eghan Osei also replied Kwakye Ofosu “Ur head die paa oo…..he said average depreciation for 3 years. Check the yearly depreciation rate and divide by 3 wai…..come again.”

“Wo ne b)n de3…..keep quiet and listen to him well. Quote what he said properly,” another twitter user with the handle @GordonGyamera told Kwakye Ofosu.

“Stop this. If you are listening, then listen to the Vice President well,” another Jojo Stephen told the former Minister.

“He said average depreciation Mr Felix. Over a 4 year period,” another said to Kwakye Ofosu.
Ur head die paa oo.. he said average depreciation for 3years.check de yearly depreciation rate and divide by 3 wai..come again

He then faded out from his replies to Dr. Bawumia’s presentation.

Bunkpurugu Naba heaps praise on Bawumia; a sign of a good feat

There is no qualm that the body politics in Ghana has seen many names, however, the name Dr Mahamudu Bawumia with no doubts epitomizes what some prominent leaders have been saying, VISIONARY and HARD WORK.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as loved by many for his humility, hard work and far-sighted qualities over the years has reverberated yet again during his operational visit to the North.

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in recent times has been on a tour in the Northern part of Ghana for a national assignment which has seen him inspect the progress of Agenda 111, a project which is considered arguably the largest healthcare investment in Ghana. The tour which has however turned out to be somewhat full of appraisals makes it even more exhilarating and successful already.

The Bunkpurugu Naba on welcoming Dr Bawumia, who is on a working visit to the north, to his Palace on Tuesday praised him for his “indefatigable leadership” and the recognition he has given to the people of Bunkpurugu and the north in general, saying that God will reward his efforts.

The Paramount Chief of Bunkpurugu Traditional Area Naba Alhaji Abuba Nasinmong eulogizing Dr Bawumia’s hard work without mincing words said,  “you are a true statesman and an astute modern politician who has efficiently aided the first gentleman of the Ghanaian State, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to maintain law and order, peace and tranquility and implementation of people-centred policies that have touched the life of every Ghanaian, especially in the Bunkpurugu – Nakpanduri District such as Free SHS policy, Planting for Food and Jobs, an extension of electricity, an improvement on our roads, etc.”

Just as Jesus Christ was never honoured by his own despite being miraculous, the lame propaganda which has turned into hatred for Dr Bawumia by some Ghanaians in recent times to score cheap political points is forlorn and nothing to write home about.

“Permit me to wholeheartedly express the following: your opponents would always find negative things to say about you, but continue with your good works and Almighty God will grant you victory.

The Bunkpurugu Naba has however added his voice to this calling out on Dr Bawumia to keep his head high and continue to work hard and be not discouraged by critics.

Why does Sammy Gyamfi lie so much- E.T. Mensah shocked

E. T. Mensah, a former minister of works and housing, has expressed surprise at several remarks made in support of how the NDC administration handled the contentious Saglemi Housing project.
This comes after Sammy Gyamfi, the party’s national communications officer, said that the project would be carried out in stages.

Mr. Gyamfi argued that Collins Dauda, the successor to E. T. Mensah, did nothing wrong in a lengthy article published shortly after it was reported that Attorney-General Godfred Dame had filed charges against five people, including two former Ministers under the NDC administration, for causing financial loss to the state.
He claimed that the actions taken by Mr. Mensah, who had notified Parliament that the housing units would not be erected all at once, could not entirely be attributed to Mr. Dauda.

“It is instructive to note that the Minister of Works and Housing at the time, Honorable. E. T. Mensah informed Parliament during the debate on the approval of the loan facility that the 5000 housing units will not be built at a go, but rather over a period of time, that is, in phases.”
He also explained that the $200 million credit facility secured for the project did not cover sewage and other ancillary works needed for the housing units.
“Under the Works Agreement, government was supposed to provide a serviced plot of land with roads, water, electricity, drains, sewage systems and other ancillary facilities for the smooth takeoff of the project, the cost of which had not been factored into the amount of $US200 million approved by Parliament for the project.”

“Since government did not have any funds to fall on to discharge these responsibilities, the decision was taken by the Ministry to use part of the approved amount of the project (US$200 million) for all the necessary ancillary works to pave way for the construction of the housing units and to make the project site a commercially viable and habitable community.
“This is what informed the decision by the Ministry to do the project in phases, as the Minister, Honourable. E. T. Mensah had already intimated to Parliament. Clearly, the 5,000 houses could not be built at a go. “
E. T. Mensah, however, rejects this account of what happened.
Speaking to Paul Adom Otchere, host of Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV, Mr. Mensah said anyone who argues the $200 million loan arrangement does not cover ancillary activities is illiterate.

The former Minister labeled the statement as a falsehood when it came to whether the project would be carried out in stages.
“It is a lie. I was not into any phases. We knew that we wanted to build, that is 5,000 houses to be built for workers, and it was approved; executive approval was given and parliament approved it, so if anything at all, If I wanted to change something, I had to go through the same process again,” he said.
He described how the project will be carried out in a single step.
He questioned, “How can people lie like this?”

DR MAHAMUDU BAWUMIAS’ STEWARDSHIP TO THE NPP DURING PRESIDENT KUFUOR’S ADMINISTRATION (I)

By: Chief Obosu Mohammed
LL.M MA ACIarb LL.B DPA

[email protected]
16/09/2022

The Kufuor Administration’s enormous achievement from 2001 to 2008 cannot be underscored without including Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who, along with others, made an important contribution. It is not surprising, however, that President Kufuor, a man endowed with wisdom and careful with his words, does not mince words and continues to trumpet Dr Bawumia’s credentials at every chance.

Given the stakes, a party like the NPP and other major political parties are unlikely to compromise their chances by nominating a stranger as their running mate. Even though Dr Bawumia was not a politician, he was no stranger to the then-NPP government. He was a backroom pillar of President Kufuor’s administration, working closely with Yaw Osarfo Marfo, Kwadwo Baah Wiredu of blessed memory, Paul Acquah, Anthony Akoto Osei, and a slew of other dignitaries in government and the party at the time.

Dr Bawumia’s demonstrable technical expertise led to his rapid and remarkable climb from Economist to Snr Economist, Head of Department, Special Assistant to the Governor, and eventually Deputy Governor before being nominated as Nana Akufo Addo’s Running Mate (as he then was).

His indelible footprints are visible in many of President Kufuor’s administration’s triumphs, particularly in finance, banking, and the economy. Dr Bawumia, for example, headed the Bank of Ghana team and was also a member of the Government of Ghana team that negotiated the HIPC assistance project in 2001. The HIPC initiative resulted in the cancellation of nearly $4 billion in debt, which was stifling the government and limiting national growth and progress at the time. The HIPC initiative has resulted in considerable rural development across the country in the fields of education, health, and infrastructure, which are still useful to both rural and urban Ghana. Despite its controversy at the time, the HIPC project offered a fiscal space that enabled President Kufuor to accomplish his transformational agenda.

Dr Bawumia oversaw the soundness of the country’s banking system as a Deputy Governor in charge of financial stability. During that period, Ghana had an influx of several universal banks across the country. Indeed, because of the banking sector’s robustness at the time, many banks were pursuing clients and potential clients with credit facilities.

Ghana was able to raise $750 in the international Eurobond issue for the first time in 2007. Apart from the fact that Ghana’s Eurobond was four times oversubscribed, Ghana was the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to accomplish that remarkable milestone. More pleasing was the fact that Dr Bawumia, as Chairman of the Capital Markets Committee, oversaw the strategy used to raise this critical finance for the country in the international market.

Such is the characteristic of a brilliant and competent Dr Bawumia, who has consistently worked hard to guarantee that the NPP attains a higher height in its endeavours, whether in government or opposition.

I will support ‘galamsey’ if elected as President again- Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that if elected president, he will release all people who have been arrested for engaging in illicit mining activities, also known as “galamsey.”
The former president promised that he would see to it that individuals who had been detained for galamsey would be released and given the opportunity to carry on with their illicit mining endeavors during an interaction with a group of NDC members.

“Eye Zu! When we win power, all those arrested for engaging in galamsey would be given amnesty for them to come back. We believe that whatever law they flouted, they’re remorseful so we shall free them and give them another chance to work as galamseyers” Mahama promised.
Following the re-arrest of Chinese galamsey queen Aisha Huang, who had returned to the country after being presumed to have been expelled to China, discussions regarding the fight against galamsey have become more intense.
The Akufo-Addo administration has come under fire from the previous president for neglecting to take serious action against galamsey in an interview with TV3.

The same person is featured in this video pledging to free everyone who has broken our mining rules and been imprisoned while also allowing them to resume their illicit mining activities.
Then-candidate Mahama sent individuals like Dr. Tony Aubynn, Kwaku Boahen, and Michael Kwadwo Peprah into galamsey-prone areas in the run-up to the 2020 elections to persuade them to vote for him because he would permit them to perform their galamsey if he won the polls. The previous president has frequently urged people to participate in galamsey.

This administration has already invested millions of dollars in its war against galamsey. This strongly suggests that the former President does not support the battle against illegal mining because it comes from him.

Vice President Bawumia honors National fitness day

In order to promote good health, the government has designated one day each year as National Fitness Day, which was officially started on Friday in Accra.
The national fitness day will be honored on September 10 and the second Saturday of every month at the local, state, and federal levels.
The Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia had requested that a day be set aside each month for Ghanaians to exercise and maintain good health. Mustapha Ussif, the Minister for Youth and Sports, who was introducing the event, said the initiative was in response to his request.
He claimed that the population’s inactivity had led to numerous illnesses and had a negative impact on production.

“There is the need for individual change and Ghanaians must also begin to exercise and prevent sicknesses and its associated medical bills,” he added.
The national fitness day, Mr. Ussif pointed out, would not only promote good health but also community relations, mental health, and sports in general. The country as a whole stood to gain a lot from it.
“This concept is very common in the USA and UK and we would replicate same in Ghana and urge all to participate and stay healthy,” he stressed.
“A healthy national is a happy and productive nation and everyone within the corporate and civil organisations must partner government to make the event a successful one,” he added.

He claimed that the Vice President was a powerful advocate for the occasion and exhorted Ghanaians to take up the role of good health ambassadors in their homes and neighborhoods.
Prof. Peter Twumasi, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), promised the organization’s support for the idea, adding that it will aid in promoting sports in the nation.
“This is one of the important activities to improve upon our sports and also get all Ghanaians on board to be healthy and stay away from the hospital,” he stated.
In order to reap the rewards of sports, he continued, Ghanaians must truly take the initiative.

National fitness was something that many people sought, according to Madam Shea Naa Boamah, a spokesperson from the Ministry of Education, and the project would help a lot of people get along.
“Sports would help you to build unity and team spirit among Ghanaians and give the current generation a platform to build friendships within the virtual world of communication,” she stated.
To entice the public to participate in aerobics and other forms of exercise, the National Fitness Instructors gave a demonstration.

Bawumia stands tall- Obiri Boahen

An argument that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has betrayed Ghanaians because the majority of the promises he made to them have not been fulfilled has been disputed by the former deputy general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Nana Obiri Boahen asserts that the vice president has succeeded because he assisted in the implementation of important government initiatives like the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) and the digitalization of Ghana’s economy.

The Former Deputy General Secretary stated in a Neat FM interview that Bawumia is the brains behind the deployment of the National Identification System, which is a huge breakthrough for the country.
“Once again, let me raise this issue, the Free Senior High School that we are implementing is a milestone in the history of this country and a milestone in the history of this continent.

“The implementation of the National Identification System (GhanaCard) by the Nana Akufo-Addo government, which successive governments have failed to do, is a major breakthrough. If you look at the Auditor General’s report it indicated that most of the infractions were found because their systems have been digitalized.

“Countries like Singapore and Malaysia are now trying to digitalize but we have already crossed that bridge. And to say that Bawumia has failed I beg to differ. If you carefully look at the things this government has achieved you cannot say that they have failed,” he said.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stands tall among some names circulating for the flagbearership race which is scheduled for 2023.

I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT DRAMA- AKUAPEM POLOO

According to actress Akuapem Poloo, drama is a necessary part of her existence.
She claims that becoming involved in issues has helped her develop a strong online presence and fan base. Read here

Akuapem Poloo stated, “Drama has brought me this far,” on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM. Without drama, I couldn’t possibly function in this world. I get a lot from my theatrical persona, including many agreements.
“This is because the energy I use to advertise is so dramatic, it gets people’s attention on the product and people buy it.”
The actress mentioned some of the issues she has been involved in throughout the years that were all organized to accomplish a particular aim at the time.

As the family’s sole provider and caregiver, Akuapem Poloo noted that she is committed to work hard and stand out in order to maintain her popularity, which in turn attracts income.

She claimed that if she chose to keep quiet and stop her antics on social media, she would take a severe financial hit.
“I need the attention. I need it, it helps. The more I trend the more my market boost, if I draw back on that it is going to worry me a lot. Whatever I do puts food on my table, that of my son and my mum,” she added.

“I am the only child, I have a lot of responsibilities so I need to work hard. Work hard as in not stealing, or doing bad things to get money, but I am just fooling on social media to get food to eat and to make my family look good and make my son look happy,” the actress stressed.
Akuapem Poloo said she is cautious about what she does because she was jailed in 2021 for uploading a naked photo of herself with her son.

SUPPORT GOVERNMENT’S EFFORT TO CREATE SYSTEMS- DR. BAWUMIA

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice president, has blamed the country’s rising indiscipline and corruption on the failure of previous administrations to erect robust systems to stop the canker.

According to him, corruption continues to hamper Ghana’s efforts to raise revenue in both public and private institutions.
Dr. Bawumia called for cooperation to support the government’s efforts to create systems to check corruption while addressing the 59th Annual Session of the Ghana Baptist Convention in the Ashanti Region.

“One of the key hindrances in fulfilling God’s purpose is corruption. Corruption inhibits economic growth and affects business operations, employment and investment. It reduces tax revenue and the effectiveness of various financial assistant programmes. It has become increasingly important that nations develop systems that care for all, empower all and minimise the gap between the rich and the poor.”

According to Transparency International’s most recent Corruption Perception Index, Ghana has not made any notable strides in its fight against corruption.
Ghana maintained its score of 43 between 2020 and 2021, which is still below the average, with countries with higher scores being perceived as less corrupt and those with lower scores as more corrupt.
Less than 30% of Ghanaians believe that people can report corruption without fear of retaliation, a decrease of four percentage points from 2019. This belief is related to the fight against corruption.

The Ghana Armed Forces, spiritual and traditional leaders, and the judiciary are the most regarded among important public institutions.
Between 2019 and 2022, trust in institutions fell by 25 percentage points, with trust in the presidency falling by 25 percentage points.
