OSP files a motion to seize Cecilia Dapaah’s assets and accounts

Source

The High Court has received a new originating motion from the Office of the Special Prosecutor, headed by Kissi Agyebeng, asking for confirmation of the orders seizing and freezing the financial assets of Cecilia Dapaah, a former sanitation minister.

OSP Kissi Agyebeng

On Monday, September 11, a motion was filed, and it is anticipated that it will be considered on October 18 of the following year, 2023.

Six days after the Special Prosecutor complied with the High Court’s instructions to return the money it had confiscated as a result of its searches, the most recent step was taken.

Additional five thousand dollars (US$5,000.00) and two million seven hundred and thirty thousand cedis (GHC2,730,000.00) were found during a search by the Special Prosecutor and his team on July 24 at three homes connected to the former Minister.

Following that and in accordance with additional searches, the OSP filed an originating action at the High Court to get a confirmation order for the freezing of the former minister’s bank accounts, which contain sizable sums of money in both dollars and cedis.

Madam Cecilia Dapaah

Additionally, Cecilia Dapaah’s bank accounts and investments at Prudential Bank Limited and Societe Generale were subject to a court confirmation order.

However, that application, which was submitted on August 8, was rejected by the High Court, which was presided over by Justice Edward Twum, on the grounds that it was submitted after the seven-day legal deadline and that the OSP had committed an error in performing the search.

Support the credible Bawumia; Dombo family appeals to NPP delegates

On behalf of the entire Dombo family, l extend our humble greetings to the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the entire leadership at all levels of the New Patriotic Party, both past and present.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

As a family that has been part of the root and fabric of the great historic tradition of the founding of the United Party tradition, through to the Progress Party (PP), the Popular Front Party (PFP) and now the New Patriotic Party, the Dombo faction has always demonstrated their unflinching and unwavering loyalty to our historic United Party tradition.

From the historic journey and constructive engagement of our great Patriach, Chief Simon Diedong Dombo (Chief S D. Dombo), in the politics of what brought our country Ghana, into being today, we his offspring, are in no doubt or elusion whatsoever, that our great Patriarch, didn’t achieve those heroics as a statesman, on his own or as an individual whose qualities stood out distinct and unique from those of his northern peers and brethren at the time.

The leadership role of our great Patriach emerged as a result of the unity and totality of support of his entire northern brethren at the time, of which one Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia, of blessed memory, was one of them. Some of these brethren of our Patriach, we believe, might have had to subdue their own personal ambitions at the time, for the sake of a common cause, in order to support their senior brother to assume the leadership mantle at the time.

Brethren of this our great UP tradition, we of the Dombo family, will want to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation, first and foremost to all the northern political forerunners, like in the persons of and not exclusive or in any order of preference, Alhaji Yakubu Tali, Alhaji B.K. Adama, Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia, Chief Jatoe Kaleo, Chief Lawyer Abeifa Karbo, H E Dr. Hilla Liman, (President of the Third Republic), all of blessed memory and many other unsung heroes of the political struggles of the then Northern Territories. These and many others, at the time, all threw their singular united and unwavering support behind our father and Patriach, Chief SD Dombo to lead the then Northern People Party, until the enactment of ADA 1957, (CA 38).

S.D. Dombo

It is for the sacrifices of these great fellow Northern compatriots and Patriachal political fathers that the name Dombo had the privilege of being the name used as among the founding fathers of the United Party tradition. We the decendants of the Chief SD Dombo Patriachal line, wish to take this opportunity to make this humble admission and also to express our deep sense of belonging and appreciation and to acknowledge all of our Northern decent, who have been part of making possible this history of the United Party that has come to stay for ever.

Brethren of our great political tradition, since the formation of the United Party as a result of the Avoidance of Discrimination Act (ADA) 1957 (C.A. 38), we on this side of the tradition, for the sake of unity of our tradition, have always thrown our support behind whoever gets elected at our presidential primaries. This is what democracy entails and as we of this tradition stand firm and hold high these values, we should be the last to want to ask for any favours that may in one way or the other, diminish these our credentials.

However, as the old adage goes, if a family is one, then they should demonstrate that in the manner they revolve the cleaning of the soup bowl. In making this our humble appeal, it is not about entitlement or making a premature call for ‘our turn’. It is a humble plea and an appeal to the rank and file at all levels of our party, to support the Presidential primaries bid of H.E. the Vice President, Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia.

We are making this plea for the first time since the marriage that brought forth the UP tradition. It is a national voluntary call, that transcends ethnic or tribal boundaries. It is not based on any ethnocentrism or sense of entitlement but on grounds of every healthy marriage and mutual co-existence, a mutuality that pre-supposes and disposes of mutual respect.

In the Presidential primaries of 2007, a son of Northern Ghana extraction, in the person of HE Alhaji Aliu Mahama, and thus, representing the Dombo faction of our great tradition, who had loyally served as a deputy to then President J.A. Kuffuor, among many others, contested but lost to our current President of the Republic of Ghana, HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.

For reasons of not being seen as seeking entitlement, we of this faction of our great tradition, always bury our heads in the sand. We however feel that this time around, we should appeal to the sympathy of our great party faithful and loyalists, to rally behind the second gentleman of the land, who has demonstrated the abilities to capably succeed HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and to lead us into winning the 2024 general elections.

Once again, we are grateful to you all and appreciate and acknowledge the role everyone played in getting our political tradition to where we are today. Undeniably, it has been a long and tedious political journey from the 1950s to now, but has all been made possible by our common understanding and unity. Nothing is impossible. Thank you.

I have my own vision for Ghana- Credible Bawumia

Vice Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, a flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party says he has his own vision for Ghana, which is to see the country leverage technology, data and systems for inclusive economic growth.

Repost from…

The Vice President is seeking to lead the NPP as flagbearer in the 2024 elections.

Addressing party supporters after after filing his presidential nomination forms at the party headquarters last Friday, the Vice President intimated that he has worked hard in both private and public life to attain the current position he occupies.

Though he served in various capacities under former President John Agyekum Kufour including being the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana and subsequently as Vice President, he has his own vision for the country.

He said “I also have my own vision for Ghana. I believe that it is time to move Ghana to the next level by building on the foundations we have put in place so far”.

He continued “Together with you, I want to see a Ghana where we leverage technology, data and systems for inclusive economic growth. I want to make Ghana the digital hub of Africa. I want us to bridge the digital divide and apply digital technology and artificial intelligence for the transformation of healthcare, education, and public service delivery amongst others”.

While stating his desire to see Ghana become a nation that caters for the poor, support local businesses and build industries for economic growth, there is a lot more the nation can do to attain its desired status.

“Over the last 22 years, I have worked hard with you for the NPP and for Ghana from during the Kufuor era as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, through our years in opposition and now in government. During this period, I have sacrificed for the party, I have defended the party in good times and in challenging times, I have never wavered nor slacked. Never! and I have built a solid track record of performance as Vice President and unflinching loyalty to our party and government through rain or shine,” he declared.

Bawumia lays his vision to take Ghana to the next level

Before telling the ecstatic crowd and to a larger extent, Ghanaians, what his vision is for taking Ghana forward, Dr. Bawumia spoke about the transformational and impactful policies he has assisted President Akufo-Addo, as Vice President to achieve, inspite of the global economic difficulty of the past three years.

“Notwithstanding the economic challenges of our time,  our government has constructed more infrastructure than any other government in the fourth republic and many transformational policies have been introduced for the first time in our history, including the Ghanacard, Digital Address, Mobile Money Interoperability, Delivery of medicines by drones, One District One Factory, Planting for Food and Jobs, Zongo Development Fund, Agenda 111, Free TVET and Free SHS to mention a few. We have also created 2.1 million jobs in six years, more than any government in the fourth republic.”

“Having implemented these transformational policy initiatives, it is very important that we don’t go backwards as a country. We cannot put the country back in the hands of people who don’t have an understanding of and belief in the vision. That is why it important for us to break the eight. There is still much more to do,” Dr. Bawumia said

He continued: “I also have my own vision for Ghana. I believe that it is time to move Ghana to the next level by building on the foundations we have put in place so far.”

Dr. Bawumia then shared a summary of his vision for Ghana, and promised to share an elaborate one in his Manifesto for the 2024 elections, an indication of his confidence to be elected flagbearer by the NPP.

“Together with you, I want to see a Ghana with an  education system tilted towards STEM, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, digital and vocational skills to cope with the demands of fourth Industrial Revolution.”

“Together with you, I want to see a Ghana where we cater and care for the the poor, vulnerable, excluded and sick people.”

“Together with you, I want to see a Ghana where we attain food security in the shortest possible time through the application of science, data, Artificial Intelligence, Satellite, Internet of Things (IOT) and irrigation to commercial farming. We will also complete the ongoing digitalization of data on all farms across the 16 regions.”

“Together with you, I want to see a Ghana where we maximize the benefits from our natural resources like gold and lithium through policies like, value addition, setting up an LBMA certified gold refinery, enhancing the gold for oil policy, and dedication of specific gold concessions to the Bank of Ghana to enhance their accumulation of gold reserves.”

“Together with you, I want to see Ghana as an industrialized nation. I want to entrench and enhance the current strategy of industrialization that we have embarked on and introduce new technology like digital manufacturing for the manufacturing of spare parts, syringes, and other equipment.”

“Together with you, I want to see a Ghana with robust fiscal discipline in the management of our public finances to sustainably and significantly reduce bank lending rates.”

“Together with you, I want to see a Ghana with an empowered local business sector, especially startups and SMEs to drive investment and growth. We will transform the SME landscape by providing unique identifiers and using technology to help them access new financing and markets. I also want to provide incentives to the private sector to replace government in the provision of a significant amount of infrastructure and many other services.”

“Together with you, I want to see a Ghana with a developed and efficient credit system through credit scoring by credit reference agencies by leveraging on integrated databases across banks, DVLA, NIA, Digital Address systems etc. to enable workers buy furniture, cars, TVs, fridges and homes (mortgages) on credit at lower cost.”

“Together with you, I want to see a Ghana with energy self-sufficiency at reduced cost through solar and other renewables with the application of market efficiency to the energy market.”

“Together with you, I want to see a Ghana with an enhanced focus on private and public investment in tourism, creative arts and sports.”

“This is not an exhaustive list and in due course we will have a chance to lay out a comprehensive Manifesto for Ghanaians.”

NPP engenders hope for Ghanaians — Credible Bawumia speaks

Source

It is now necessary, according to Vice-President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to position the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a way that inspires confidence, hope, and trust “both in ourselves and the larger Ghanaian community in order to break the eight.”

That, he claimed, had grown in importance as a result of the nation’s socioeconomic struggles brought on by the COVID-19 outbreak and the Russia-Ukraine war.

“Things have not always gone as planned, and we have not accomplished everything we set out to do on the day we were sworn into office.

Despite the difficulties, we have produced a strong track record of successes, Dr. Bawumia stated.

The Vice-President was speaking at a conference that the NPP’s United Kingdom Chapter had organized in London.

Dr. Bawumia was in the UK to co-chair the 8th UK-Ghana Business Council (UKGBC) meeting in addition to attending the third Ghana Investments and Opportunities Summit (GHIOS), which was jointly organized by the Ghana Investments Promotion Centre (GIPC) and the Ghana High Commission in the UK.

Crisis

According to him, the pandemic disrupted international supply networks, and the reaction taxed the government’s resources.

According to him, “the war increased the prices of commodities in the country due to an inflation from 12.9% in December 2021 to 54% by December 2022 with an accompanying depreciation of the cedi by 30% in 2022.” Fertilizer and grain prices were among the other things that were negatively impacted by the war.

He claimed that the two crises occurred when the country was still paying $1 billion per year under a questionable energy Power Purchase Agreement inherited from the previous administration for power it had not used over the previous six years.

“These events’ combined effects harmed an economy that expanded at an average pace of approximately 2 percent.

Judge by achievement

The Vice President claimed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the primary opposition to the administration, had capitalized on the ominous trends to minimize its accomplishments during the previous six years.

Politicians and commentators alike have been talking a lot.

Politicians are rumored to talk a lot but rarely discuss their accomplishments, the speaker remarked.

Therefore, he urged Ghanaians to evaluate the NPP government on the basis of its accomplishments, noting that it had inherited a dire economic situation from the previous administration.

Many of the government’s programs and policies that were enacted after the NPP took office in 2017 were being implemented for the first time under the Fourth Republic, according to the Vice-President.

Among other things

“It is important to note that many of the transformational policy initiatives that we have introduced since 2017 are being done for the first time since independence and most have benefited women,” he stressed.

He added that because many of the measures had never been implemented before, many individuals believed that they were inconceivable and that only the government could have made them possible.

According to him, the government has already started implementing over 100 programs and projects.

Message

Dr Bawumia, one of the 11 flagbearer hopefuls of the NPP, urged party members to reject claims that the party would have no message to persuade voters.

Election Message

“Let nobody tell you that we don’t have a message for 2024.

I must hasten to add that this does not mean we have done everything we intended to do or ought to have done.

There is clearly a lot more to do and we will work hard to do more,” he intimated.

With the introduction of problem-solving policy initiatives, according to Dr. Bawumia, the NPP government headed by President Nana Akufo-Addo has accomplished a lot. He named a few of them, including the Ghana Card, Tax Identification Number (TIN), National Health Insurance Number, and development of the Elmina Fishing Harbour.

Most credible politician, Dr. Bawumia sets the record straight on his citizenship

Source

The most credible Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has denied having British citizenship.
This claim is bolstered by information about the vice president on the British government’s Companies House website, where Dr. Bawumia is listed as indicating that he is a Brit.

However, the vice president has said that part of the information on the website is incorrect.
According to him, he indicated unequivocally that he is a Ghanaian on the document he filled out for Companies House when he was the director of the Ghana International Bank, a subsidiary of the Bank of Ghana in London, UK.
A copy of Dr. Bawumia’s Companies House form from 2006, which the vice president’s office provided, revealed that he wrote that he was Ghanaian.

Except for his nationality and the day he resigned, which were not on the form, all of Dr. Bawumia’s details captured on the website matched what he entered on the information form.
GhanaWeb has sought out to Companies House and the British High Commission in Accra for explanation, but neither has answered.
The vice president’s profile on the Companies House website included information about his time as a director of the Ghana International Bank.
It stated that the Ghana International Bank was still operating in the United Kingdom, but that Dr. Bawumia had quit as director.
On October 18, 2006, he was appointed, and on April 15, 2009, he resigned.

House No. 48, 6th Estate Road, Kanda Estates, Accra, Greater Accra, Ghana was listed as his address.
The vice president’s occupation was listed as banker, and he was British.

Ghana is the best destination for investment and number one for business — Competent Bawumia

Source

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emphasized that Ghana remains the most favorable investment destination in the West African Sub-region despite the economic difficulties.

His comments follow the $3 billion in assistance the International Monetary Fund (IMF) provided, which the Ghanaian president hopes would help stabilize the country’s economy.

Dr. Bawumia gave assurance that investors that pick Ghana as their investment destination won’t be sorry they did.

He discussed Ghana’s advantages as a centre for investments when speaking to attendees at the Ghana Investment Summit in the UK.

He noted the country’s law-abiding citizens, educated and literate people, and vibrant young population as important elements that make Ghana an alluring location for investment.

He declared, “We have a law-abiding, politically stable, educated, and vibrant young population that is highly read. It is the top location for conducting business over the past ten years and one of West Africa’s shining spots for investments.

John Mahama, the NDC’s candidate for president in the general elections of 2024, has stated that Ghana is not only one of the greatest countries in West Africa for conducting business.

He thinks that because of the economic uncertainty experienced under the current administration, foreign investors in West Africa do not favor Ghana as a regional base.

He said that the bank collapses were the result of personal grudges on the part of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration headed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

As some factors impeding business growth, he listed rising electricity and water rates, high inflation, and the depreciation of the local currency. He also noted that multinational corporations were leaving the nation, and those that had remained had relocated their headquarters to neighboring nations.

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honor at the 7th Ghana CEOs conference, Mahama claimed that Ghana had lost its reputation as the finest place to conduct business in West Africa because of the government’s agreement with the Fund to hike power and water tariffs quarterly.

A demon has entered the NDC- Zanetor Rawlings exclaims

The daughter of the late president, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, Zanetor Rawlings, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rid itself of any residual “demons” in order to win the impending 2024 elections.
Zanetor Rawlings, a lawmaker, emphasised the need for the NDC, which she described as the result of the revolution, to undergo a careful self-examination when she gave a fervent speech at a church in Cape Coast on June 3 to mark the beginning of the 44th-anniversary commemoration of the June 4 Revolution.

She emphasised that any harmful influences that may have slowly crept in over time must be removed from the celebration.
“If the NDC is to rescue this country by 2024, we must clear ourselves of any demon that entered while we were not paying attention,” Zanetor Rawlings declared, encouraging her party members to reflect on their conduct and align themselves with the June 4 Uprising’s values.
The arrest and prosecution of Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings and other junior military officers by the leadership of the Supreme Military Council II (SMC II) prompted the June 4 Revolution, also known as the June 4th Uprising. Following a failed coup attempt on May 15, 1979, the former president and his colleagues were charged with mutiny.

During his trial, Jerry John Rawlings offered a variety of reasons for the failed rebellion. He emphasised the denial of pay to junior military commanders, pervasive corruption among Supreme Military Council officials, bad governance, economic challenges, and general populist dissatisfaction. Furthermore, he cited indiscipline within the Ghana Army as a crucial contributing element to the revolt.

The demand by Zanetor Rawlings for the NDC to exorcise its demons reflects the spirit of the June 4 Revolution, which attempted to confront these issues and bring about constructive change in the party.

Competent Bawumia sad over 85 year old cured leper’s death

Source

The most credible Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia gave the 82-year-old woman a two-bedroom house as a present in September 2020, but she has since passed away.

After the Vice President saw a JoyNews documentary by Seth Kwame Boateng called “Withered Skins” that featured Daari Pogo, he took notice of her situation.
Madam Poga, who lived on the outskirts of Gurungu in the Upper West district, lost four of her ten children and was abandoned by the rest, so she was left to live with her granddaughter Adjara in a decaying five by six metre mud home.

The Vice President came to her aid by providing food and toiletries among other things in less than 24 hours after her story was broadcast on all JoyNews platforms.

He then made the commitment to construct Madam Pogo a respectable house. The two-bedroom home was built and equipped in less than six weeks before being delivered to Madam Daari.
Dr. Bawumia expressed his deep regret upon learning of the now 85-year-old woman’s passing in a Facebook post today.
