Our opponents don’t read- Bawumia

Talking at the ceremony in Cape Coast, he also mentioned significant road initiatives the NPP government had carried out in the Central Region, indicating that these initiatives were a part of the Akufo-Addo administration’s overall commitment to enhancing the nation’s road infrastructure.

The Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA) between the Government of Ghana and the People’s Republic of China through SinoHydro Corporation includes development of the Cape Coast Inner City Roads as a component.
Phase 1 of the agreement consists of 441km of highways and two interchanges, including the already-commissioned Jasikan-Dodi-Pepeso route, the Tamale Interchange, the ongoing Takoradi interchange, and the 100km Kumasi Inner City Road. Takoradi is the first junction to be built in the north.

The completion of yet another inner-city route as a result of the SinoHydro deal, Dr. Bawumia stated in his speech, has silenced critics who had expressed concerns about the pact’s viability after his visit to China a few years before to its signing.
“I am particularly happy today because when we first mooted the idea of the SinoHydro road project after my visit to China in 2018, many of our political opponents said that what we were proposing to do under the Sinohydro road projects was not possible. They said we were lying,” Dr. Bawumia said.

He added: “But today marks yet another day of the commissioning of yet another SinoHydro project.
Unfortunately for some of our opponents, when we say something and they don’t understand, instead of asking for an explanation and also reading about it, they don’t like to read, they don’t want to ask for an explanation; they just say you’re lying. But today, as we commission the road, they are silent. They are no longer saying it is not possible.”

Tough Days but we will recover- Dr. Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia spoke about current global economic issues and how Ghana is dealing while in Kenya a few days ago to attend President Ruto’s inauguration.
In an interview with Kenyan media, Dr. Bawumia also emphasized the advantages of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), whose secretariat is Ghana, and how it will significantly contribute to the continent’s continuing economic progress.
“It is important that Africa trades by itself… we are very passionate about it. There are a lot of opportunities and potential to realise’ he mentioned to The Standard.

Following the global pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Bawumia stressed that the high levels of inflation plaguing Ghana’s economy are a concern impacting all global economies when asked about it.
“We are trying to deal with the issue in this context of very squeezed and tight budgets. On the monetary side, the Central Bank is trying to contain inflation through a number of interest rate increases. Ultimately, you deal with this crisis by expanding your production. If it is a food crisis, then we need to increase food production” he told KTN News in an interview.
Dr. Bawumia stated that the government continues to provide free secondary school education to people and is looking into various ways it may assist all Ghanaians in coping with the global crisis in order to further alleviate the strain on families in Ghana with regard to rising living expenses.

“For the government, central to Ghana’s recovery is a bottom-up economic model that includes all Ghanaians from all over the country, from all backgrounds. The NPP’s ongoing digitisation agenda is an example of this strategy that is helping all Ghanaians move forward and not be left behind,” Dr Bawumia said.

The vice president used his many years of experience to help Ghana advance and recover while he was working at the Bank of Ghana, where he contributed to lowering inflation from 40% to barely 10%.

DR BAWUMIA’S GENIUS LED TO THE ELECTORAL REFORMS AFTER THE 2012 ELECTIONS PETITION

It is by no means a stroke of luck that a determined Walewale innate would rise through the ranks of academia. Of course, it is not surprising that our brothers and sisters from the Northern part of Ghana are well-known customarily for their hard work and dedication, H. E. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is no exception.

I recall vividly in 2012 when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the general election and had to challenge the results at the Supreme Court. Many Ghanaians like myself then were stunned by the analytical ability, articulacy and intellect displayed by Dr Bawumia in the court of law, a trend that gave me some memories which are deeply ingrained in my psyche. Not forgetting the popular ‘you and I were not there’ response that Dr Bawumia gave to Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his team at the time after gathering and analyzing data available realized the elections were not transparent therefore proceeding to court to challenge the results was necessary.

Challenging the results at the Supreme Court was not only a means to test our democracy but also brought some reforms to our elections.

Dr Bawumia and his team, unfortunately, could not win the case, however, the petition presented to the court had exposed the need for certain electoral reforms which a document from the judges confirmed.

 • The Voter’s register must be compiled and made available to the parties as early as possible.

•   A supplementary register may cater for late exigencies.

•    The calibre of presiding officers must be greatly raised.

•     The pink sheet is too elaborate, a much simpler one to meet the pressures of the public, weariness, and lateness of the day at the close of a poll etc.

•    The carbon copying system must be improved upon.

•   The Biometric Device System must be streamlined to avoid breakdowns and the stress on the electorate involved in an adjournment of the poll.

•    Invalidating wholesale votes for insignificant excess numbers is not the best application of the administrative principle of the proportionality test.

The dissenting justices who held the view there were issues to be settled with allegations of overvoting, absence of presiding officers’ signature and voting without biometric verification suggested the above reforms, all thanks to Dr Bawumia who did not allow himself to be dwindled by naysayers.

A further 50 km of roads have been re-gravelled by the DUR, and 7.5 km of roads have been rehabilitated.

Why does Sammy Gyamfi lie so much- E.T. Mensah shocked

E. T. Mensah, a former minister of works and housing, has expressed surprise at several remarks made in support of how the NDC administration handled the contentious Saglemi Housing project.
This comes after Sammy Gyamfi, the party’s national communications officer, said that the project would be carried out in stages.

Mr. Gyamfi argued that Collins Dauda, the successor to E. T. Mensah, did nothing wrong in a lengthy article published shortly after it was reported that Attorney-General Godfred Dame had filed charges against five people, including two former Ministers under the NDC administration, for causing financial loss to the state.
He claimed that the actions taken by Mr. Mensah, who had notified Parliament that the housing units would not be erected all at once, could not entirely be attributed to Mr. Dauda.

“It is instructive to note that the Minister of Works and Housing at the time, Honorable. E. T. Mensah informed Parliament during the debate on the approval of the loan facility that the 5000 housing units will not be built at a go, but rather over a period of time, that is, in phases.”
He also explained that the $200 million credit facility secured for the project did not cover sewage and other ancillary works needed for the housing units.
“Under the Works Agreement, government was supposed to provide a serviced plot of land with roads, water, electricity, drains, sewage systems and other ancillary facilities for the smooth takeoff of the project, the cost of which had not been factored into the amount of $US200 million approved by Parliament for the project.”

“Since government did not have any funds to fall on to discharge these responsibilities, the decision was taken by the Ministry to use part of the approved amount of the project (US$200 million) for all the necessary ancillary works to pave way for the construction of the housing units and to make the project site a commercially viable and habitable community.
“This is what informed the decision by the Ministry to do the project in phases, as the Minister, Honourable. E. T. Mensah had already intimated to Parliament. Clearly, the 5,000 houses could not be built at a go. “
E. T. Mensah, however, rejects this account of what happened.
Speaking to Paul Adom Otchere, host of Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV, Mr. Mensah said anyone who argues the $200 million loan arrangement does not cover ancillary activities is illiterate.

The former Minister labeled the statement as a falsehood when it came to whether the project would be carried out in stages.
“It is a lie. I was not into any phases. We knew that we wanted to build, that is 5,000 houses to be built for workers, and it was approved; executive approval was given and parliament approved it, so if anything at all, If I wanted to change something, I had to go through the same process again,” he said.
He described how the project will be carried out in a single step.
He questioned, “How can people lie like this?”

John Mahama has secured the services of Steve Hank- P.K Sarpong

It appears the marriage between John Dramani Mahama and Steve Mallory of Africa Watch magazine has come to an end, prompting the desperado former president to seek the services of another mercenary.

This time round, Mahama has secured the services of Steve H. Hanke, a professor of applied economics at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Just like his phobia of Akufo-Addo drove him to contract Steve Mallory, John Mahama has gone in for this economist whose main job is to attack Dr. Bawumia over the state of the economy.

Steve Mallory invented all manner of stories about Akufo-Addo, published the then NPP candidate’s medical records which turned out to be false.

It was evidently clear that those stories were being written from Ghana by Mahama’s henchmen and same planted in Africa Watch. Those false stories, as bad as they were, could not change the minds of the Ghanaian electorate who voted massively for Nana Addo.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia will more than likely lead the NPP into the 2024 elections, and all things being equal, the incompetent one, John Mahama, would also lead the NDC in 2024.

Bawumia beats Mahama when the two are compared as presidential candidates. John Mahama cannot stand the might of Bawumia. He is too ordinary to go against Bawumia and so, for him to have a bit of an advantage, Bawumia must be sullied.

Steve Hanke is in to stain the academic prowess of Bawumia. The question is, all those countries this ‘greatest economist’ has advised in the past, what came out of them?

Hanke will falter just like Steve Mallory whose hatred for Akufo-Addo drove him to join forces with Mahama to defile the good image of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. His strenuous efforts will surely come to naught.

I will run for a higher position- Asiedu Nketiah

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said that he will not run for reelection when the party convenes congress on December 17.
The seasoned politician declared that it was time for him to step aside and allow others to take over the party’s leadership.
He claims that the job is very demanding.

“Age plays a major role in everything. This job of a General Secretary involves a lot; your time, energy, among others.”
“I have considered all these, and I am of the firm view that I won’t contest again. What I am saying is that I won’t seek re-election as General Secretary,” Mr Nketiah said in an interview with Accra-based Radio Gold on Wednesday, September 21.

When asked about his future step, he declined to respond, stating that he would make the announcement later.
However, according to political pundits, he will run for the party’s National Chairmanship position.
In 2005, Mr. Nketiah was appointed NDC general secretary and he has led till now.
On December 17, the party is anticipated to attend Congress to choose new national officers.
Many candidates, including Peter Boamah Otokunor and Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, have announced that they will run for the seat.

Ashitey pleads with Mahama to stop telling lies

Former President John Mahama has received well wishes for the New Year from Executive Member Stephen Ashitey Adjei of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tema East.
In a letter to Mr. Mahama, Mr. Ashitey Adjei, often known as Moshake, expresses his sincere hope that the former president will tell less lies in the upcoming year and that he will keep him in his prayers.

“As a former leader of my party, the great NDC, I am not happy that you are not generally reliable with what you say. This is why my most fervent wish for you this year is that, we see less and less of the lies from you,” Moshake wrote.
The blunt-speaking NDC Executive known as Moshake has charged that former President John Mahama used his position to make NDC unpopular and push the party from power to opposition since 2016.
He bemoans the former President’s continued drag on the NDC in his new year’s write-up due to his lack of genuine sincerity in his public speech.

“For instance, everyone knows that the ‘’thank you tour” that you recently embarked on was just an ostensible ploy to actually start your campaign for 2024 flagbearership. How do I know?
“Because it is on this same tour that you declared your “do or die” comment. How could you be declaring do or die for the next election if you have no plan of contesting? And yet you told the party you were going on a thank you tour,” Moshake wrote.
According to him, “it is lies and monkey tricks like this makes it difficult for the NDC to band together at the top.”

Moshake points out that the trick Mr. Mahama pulled with the thank you tour only reminds him of the Mahama bag of tricks. “What you did on the tour is no different from what you did in 2016. You and your family declared to the whole world that you had quit politics, only to turn round and contest for the 2020 presidential ticket of the NDC.”

According to him, “Mr. Mahama even tricked NDC stalwarts including Dr. Ekwow Spio Gabrah, Prof. Joshua Alabi and others into thinking that he would make them running mates in 2020, only to swerve them for Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.”

The firebrand NDC Executive added that, “Mr. Mahama continued with his dodgy tactics even after losing the 2020 elections, claiming that he had won and yet when he went to court, he could not provide any evidence to back the claim.”
The NDC’s reputation is hurt by all of these shady activities, according to Moshake, who argued that even though Mr. Mahama is no longer the party’s head, the NDC still suffers from his lack of simple honesty because he was the party’s most recent leader.
“This is why in 2022, the best I can wish for John Mahama, for the sake of the NDC, is a more straightforward lifestyle. No more using supposed health walks as means to start campaigns through the backdoor, like Mahama did in Tamale; no more announcing retirement from politics only to return, and no more claiming victory and misleading the party’s youth on the streets to demonstrate only to fail miserably to produce one shred of evidence in court.

“I have always said that our imperfect human nature frequently impels us to do and say things at the wrong time, but lying on the part of former president Mahama is going beyond reasonable definition of what is appropriate, Mr. Mahama should withdraw from the 2024 flagbearership race and submit himself to character transformation in this new year,“ Moshake wrote.

I will support ‘galamsey’ if elected as President again- Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that if elected president, he will release all people who have been arrested for engaging in illicit mining activities, also known as “galamsey.”
The former president promised that he would see to it that individuals who had been detained for galamsey would be released and given the opportunity to carry on with their illicit mining endeavors during an interaction with a group of NDC members.

“Eye Zu! When we win power, all those arrested for engaging in galamsey would be given amnesty for them to come back. We believe that whatever law they flouted, they’re remorseful so we shall free them and give them another chance to work as galamseyers” Mahama promised.
Following the re-arrest of Chinese galamsey queen Aisha Huang, who had returned to the country after being presumed to have been expelled to China, discussions regarding the fight against galamsey have become more intense.
The Akufo-Addo administration has come under fire from the previous president for neglecting to take serious action against galamsey in an interview with TV3.

The same person is featured in this video pledging to free everyone who has broken our mining rules and been imprisoned while also allowing them to resume their illicit mining activities.
Then-candidate Mahama sent individuals like Dr. Tony Aubynn, Kwaku Boahen, and Michael Kwadwo Peprah into galamsey-prone areas in the run-up to the 2020 elections to persuade them to vote for him because he would permit them to perform their galamsey if he won the polls. The previous president has frequently urged people to participate in galamsey.

This administration has already invested millions of dollars in its war against galamsey. This strongly suggests that the former President does not support the battle against illegal mining because it comes from him.

Stop making statements that endanger judges- Anin Yeboah cautions

Politicians and attorneys alike have been warned by Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah to use caution while speaking out against the judiciary.
Speaking on September 12 at the 2022/2023 Ghana Bar Association Annual General Conference in Ho, he cited the 1982 brutal murder of three High Court judges as evidence that words should be chosen carefully.
In remarks delivered on his behalf by Justice Jones Dotse (Jsc), the Chief Justice (CJ) criticized politicians for making statements that endanger judges.
“We in Ghana have had a chequered history. We have had three distinguished judges of the High Court abducted and killed. We celebrate this incident since it occurred.

“I have made sure if I am in the country, I always attend these functions. As lawyers, we should not make careless comments and remarks that will revisit the occurrences of 1982.

“I, therefore, entreat all of you to be very very circumspect in making very dangerous comments about the judiciary. I am not saying so because I am a judge because once you are in it, you are in it.

“But then comments from members of the bar and senior politicians should be such that we are not…judges are not put up for sale by those who want to cause commotion and confusion in the country,” Justice Jones Dotse stated.
On June 30, 1982, a day now known as Martyr’s Day, three High Court Judges and a retired army officer were assassinated in the open at the Bundase Military Range in the Accra Plains. The assassins had kidnapped them that evening.

Justice Fred Poku Sarkodie, Major Rtd., Mr. Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong, and Mrs. Justice Cecilia Koranteng-Addo were the four. John Acquah.
John Dramani Mahama, a former president of Ghana, has recently expressed worry over a deterioration in public trust in the court.
According to him, restoring public confidence in the judiciary will just require the appointment of a new Chief Justice.
“There is therefore the urgent need for the Ghanaian Judiciary to work to win the trust and confidence of the citizenry and erase the widely held perception of hostility and political bias in legal proceedings at the highest courts of the land.

“Unfortunately, we have no hope that the current leadership of our judiciary can lead such a process of change. We can only hope that a new Chief Justice will lead a process to repair the broken image that our judiciary has acquired over the last few years,” Mahama stated during a forum for NDC attorneys on August 28.
Attorney General Godfred Dame has described the comments by Mahama as deplorable, coming from someone who has been a former president.
